An escape pod slowly drifts through space on its way into Bob's orbit. Meanwhile, down on the surface, Captain Shack is rudely awoken by R-5 with 80's music and movie audio clips. In return, Shack welds a landing gear under R-5 and takes off with him to retrieve the batteries from the debris field.
Salvage operations get off to a shaky start as R-5 is barely able to lift a single battery onto the truck; the other battery still has a merge block attached to it as well. Once onboard, he stops by the wreck to remove the refinery, assembler, batteries, and med bay to relocate it to his new base by the lake.
As Shack is about to leave, R-5 goes tearing off on his own. Shack cautiously sets off on his trip, making a quick pit stop to get a sample from a rock outcropping that contains valuable ores. At last, he finally stops near a hill by the lake that has an excellent view of the area.
The initial design isolates power storage for safety purposes, with the intent to also house solar panels in the same area. Attaching the salvaged battery requires adding a merge block to it, which R-5 is barely able to keep in the air for placement. After successfully placing it, the drone wanders off, apparently sulking while Shack continues construction, bringing the medical bay back online, followed by the refinery and assembler.
Resource shortfall forces the captain to go mining again. R-5 is pressed into service as a tunnel light as the only iron in the area is underground. By the end of the day, he feels he has mined up enough to complete base construction and is quite satisfied with where he has chosen to settle down. He seems content to be on the planet alone, not missing the overcrowding of Earth.
R-5 brings him back down to reality as a burning object hurtles through the air just over his base - presumably the escape pod seen at the beginning of the episode.
Other Notes[]
- On display in this particular episode are several Space Engineers bugs, including vehicles that don't stay put on slight inclines even with the handbrake set. The building UI's "purple sky box" also makes an appearance.
- The Constitution's small arms locker must have been located right behind the bridge; at 21:24 in the episode, he has four guns between his inventory and container 2 on the rover. Presumably these were items that weren't discarded after accidental deaths.
