Space Engineers Group Survival Wikia

Shack resumes work on securing access to the wreck, scouting the nearby area, and determining how far he'll be able to go while in his suit, going to explore what appears to be a nearby lake.

After musing over the challenge of trying to transport water, he takes in the view of the lake and its nearby mountains, proclaiming the lake to be Shack Lake -- something he is allowed to name being the smartest person on the entire planet. Unfortunately, he finds that said lake is essentially a packed glacier. Since it's ice, it'll definitely take a vehicle to transport it to his base.

After building a flat platform to work on, he begins construction of a wide-bed cargo truck, cannibalizing the wreck as needed for critical parts - a task made rather difficult by the extreme angle of the deck and the limited amount of silicon and nickel, forcing him to salvage it from disassembled components like bulletproof glass and ammunition.

The rover design evolves somewhat during construction, with the intent to power it with two batteries and a solar panel. Over the course of the day and following night, the rover takes shape, featuring a blunt nose, armored wheel covers, and solar panels over twin rear drive wheels. He also attaches solar panels to the wreck to bolster the dwindling battery reserves. With a crane being an unlikely achievement, Shack decides to modify R-5 with landing gear to transport the batteries from the debris field back to the ship to further bolster power.

Finally, Shack is able to start perusing files recovered from the wreck. 80% of the files are the ship's AI. Unfortunately, the only surviving entertainment file were from Commander w4sted's stores... which is limited in scope to TV shows and music from the 80s and 90s.

Unable to sleep, he works into the night on the rover, completing more of the framework and adding in an ore detector and onboard cargo storage. He takes the rover on its maiden voyage - complete with sweeping light bar, playing the theme from Knight Rider. It proves difficult to safely steer at times and even harder to stop, nearly resulting in driving off the cliff edge at the wreck site. He opts to park the rover there for the night until it's safer to move.

Random Trivia[]

The port side flight control station is established as Valefor's in this episode.

R-5's official in-game title is "Recon Probe 5962".

Speaking of the probe, his sudden disappearance in this episode is presumed to be due to uncontrolled collision with the ground or another object after remote control was lost; the forward-mounted reactor "stubs" coupled with the existing lift capabilities and a healthy dose of Klang likely could have resulted in R-5's sudden and hasty departure.
